Well, the title says it all really. Is there a such animal as a 73 - 79 extended cab, shortbed, styleside, 4x4? A friend of mine has a dad that's really into these trucks. He's built one for his son and one of his daughters and asked if I knew anything about a truck like described above. Apparently he wants one as his last project but I told him I didn't even know if there was such a thing. If there's no such thing, I wouldn't be wastin' time lookin' for somethin' that doesn't exist so I thought I'd ask ya'll if it's a real thing instead of something someone custom built in the backyard.

Yes, they exist. They are rare. If you want one thats really Tough, look for an F250. They are really rare, but they are some still around. If it were me I would hold out for a 1979 4x4, imagine that. good luck hunting!

Thanks! It's good to know I'm not looking for something that doesn't exist. I told him if I found something I'd let him know but I'm not really out beating bushes in pastures or anything for one for him. He was told by his daughter that I had an "internet hook up" for finding these trucks. ;-) As Hyde said on "That 70's Show" to Jackie, whatever...

since your in texas you shouldn't have to look to hard my first 4 door 4x4 swb I ever saw was in Monahans Tx get closer to New Mexico where they have to have 4wd and you will probably find the oil trucks a dime a dozen!!

One I've my older friends made a custom one. Only it's not a short box but is still pretty cool. It's 77 or 78 white and brown, 351.

ford never made a super cab short bed 4x4 in the 70's, they made crewcab 4x4 short bed's, but never supercab's.

I know they made the super cab long bed 4x4's, but I don't think they ever made a super cab short bed 4x4. I have never seen one, or heard of one, and have had many people say they never made one.

that picture definitely looks like a long box to me. a short box is pretty much the same length before and behind the wheel well. that one is definitely longer in front of the wheel well. i think it may look short due to the angle of the shot and the extra length of the cab which makes the proportions seem off. the ford master parts catalog does not make any reference to a supercab shortbed frame for a 4X4 which it would had they produced them. hawkrod

looks like a long box to me. But, I was looking at my shortbed supercab 2wd, and I think a 1/2 ton 4x4 set up might work. I have not measured for sure yet. First I better finish my crew 4x4.

ford4life69, are you asking if there is such a thing as an EXTENDED or FOUR DOOR cab? i have seen plenty of extended cab short bed's and if i am not mistaken i have also seen a few 4 door short box's. does anyone have any idea what the wheelbase would be on a 4 door 8' long box?? there were three wheelbase options for 79. 117" 133" 155", i will stand corrected if i am wrong but i am going by my memory here. i do not believe that a 4 door 8' box would fit onto a 155" wheelbase.

he was asking specifically about 4X4 extended cab shortbed and that was not available. the 2WD was available as an extended cab shortbed. hawkrod
