Chevy and Dodge guy...bought a 1979 Ford F250, Long Bed, 2WD, with a 460 engine. 8 lug hubs. 90% restored. Got it from guy a that had to sell it. Going to use it for work truck and weekend hauler. Looks like all bushings have been changed and general cosmetic and body work is complete.
Any tips, hints, or advice on this era truck? Not familiar with quirks and problems of Fords.
Need info on this truck. Rear End? Transmission? Etc... Rarity?
I learned to drive on a 78 F250 SC LB. Good truck, built solid, reliable, simple to work on. 90% restored sounds like you will have the truck a long time, you lucky man. Quirks? I don't really notice too many things out of the ordinary. Except for the usual pump the pedal to start, harder to start cold, etc. We of course have questions...
Auto or Man Transmission?
Check the tags in the door opening - drivers side.
The codes there will tell you everything you want to know.
As for the tags, notice some on the inside of the hood. They list engine type, and some other general info. Just got the truck today. Only messed around with it for a few hours.
It has some cheap steel rims I would like to get rid of and replace. Any suggestions on places to look. 8 lug.
It also has a two piece drive shaft. Any protental problems there? Older chevy's (60's) can have problems with that kind of setup.
Place to look for specs? Max Tongue Wt.? Max Towing Cap? And can I get a gasoline pipeline to my house for the fuel consumption?
Yeah, you'll probably get anywhere between 8 and 12 mpg
Don't know off top of head to get rims - you can try the online store here...
Drive shaft - 2 are common - never noticed any problems
Specs - I have the original book for these trucks, but I would need specific info - like - supercooling pkg, axle ratio, Camper or Trailer Special, Overload pkgs, wheel-base, etc.
