fuel pouring from #1 cylinder
Bought Edlebrock 600, was told to pull #1 plug and check for top dead center as timing was probably advanced for holley 750. I pulled the #1 plug, and turned the key on, I didn't start it, only turned the key so the radio and stuff would work, and it stunk of gas. I jumped out and there was gas streaming from the #1 cylinder (plug hole).
I called autoz-ne, and they said that the carb was probably messed up, not seating properly, and to exchange for another. Did it with same result.
Then was told my fuel pump may be too strong. I check it and it says it's a 5.5-9 psi electric fuel pump. I bought a fuel pump regulator but it keeps streaming out from #1. Could the fuel pump be messed up causing it to blow through the regulator and forcing its way through the carb and out the cylindar? When I turn the key to the on position, the fuel filter shakes and fills with fuel and never stops. I take that to mean that fuel pump is not shutting off, should it do that? Please help guys. I've reached the end of what I know how to do. Thanks all, Steve...
The Holley and the Edelbrock operate from 5 to 7 psi. With the fuel pump you have and a regulator in line you should be OK.
However, if you leave the key in the On position without the engine running you can overflow the fuel bowl and gas will flow into the cylinders.
Also check to see if the pump you have requires a return line. Some of them do not have a presssure shut-off and need a return line to bypass when pressure is reached.
