Ran good then my baby die!!!!!
Since then I change the following items: plugs, plug wires, coil, relay, battery,it has a new distributor(whole thing replaced),
ignition module, fuel pump next to the engine, sending unit inside the tank, These changes i made thru the months , now I live in a house and the truck is on the driveway.
So, I rebuilt the carburator twice, last week i decided to connect the plug wires on the distributor as the firing order goes135624 instead of what the HAYNES book says it, it took 2 minutes to start,, it fired up. It ran about 3-5 minutes but everytime i wanted to let it idle it backfired so bad, it sounded like M-80s
.So, I connect the the wires back to normal on the distributor, then I bought a brand new carburator for 200 bucks. Now it wont start for nothing, Its turning but no luck, i tried to connect the plug wires like i did last time, but not even that helps.
Wife says "get ready of that truck" but now that I'm installing everything new and spending my time on my truck, which it took me to NYC, and Miami twice back and forth, i dont think I sell it for nothing. GUYS!!!!! what else can I do??????
Trcuk has 116,000 miles, new flywheel, new starter,4 brand new huge tires w 1,000 miles on it.
Any advise or consolation will help.
thank you guys
The straight 6 never had a chain - it uses direct gear drive.

Start with the basics: how much compression does it have? Does gasoline move thru the carburetor? Get a Haynes manual and tes the ignition system with a multimeter. Those 3 checks will tell you what the basic problem(s) are. From there, you can narrow it down until it runs like a top again.

As long as the distributor body can be spun so that the rotor points to the #1 wire (regardless of whether or not it's stuck onto the "1" post) and the wires are in the right order, it doesn't really matter which tooth it's on. It will still work normally even if the rotor points 180° out as long as the wires are also 180° out and the timing is set normally.

If you think the timing is off, just set it normally. If you can't turn the dist. body far enough, just move each plug wire on the cap 1 position in the direction you're trying to twist it, and start over. No need to restab.

After I installed the carb , that was it, no more.
Now the choke supposed to be open or close when I try to start it????
Should i put screwdriver to hold the choke plate or else????
I guess the timing gear is good cause rotates after i try to start the truck.
MMMMMMMMMMMMm!!!!! I have to be something simple. I'm blind.
So do you know where your initial timing is at now? I'd double check where you're at timing wise by synching up cylinder #1 and your #1 plug wire in distributor/timing mark. Make sure you're in the ballpark. I'd think the haynes manual should have a walkthrough for this.
you've got alot of variables going here by changing things on both the ignition & fuel sides of the equation. Like steve said earlier, I'd try and limit it down to one or the other. Do you know you're getting spark/fuel?
I have the distributor open and every time that i try to start it, dist moves slow, I bought one of those remote starters that hook w/ the relay , while i'm doing it I move the distributor, and nothing, yes i get sparks.
i havent replace the condenser yet, could be??? or the fuel, I have like 6 gallons in the tank, one thing though, Its the same gas from March last year, I live in KY, and this past winter we got frozen temps lows 10's , do you think my gas is mix w/ water?????? cause when I touch it ( gas) from the carburator it doesnt smell that strong. MMMMMMMMmmm
Pour some fuel dryer or carb cleaner in & add as much fresh gas as you can.
