79 gas tank location
i think i know the answer but i want to double check, did ford ever put a gas tank in the cab and at the rear of the bed on a 79 or did they stop that in 76??
was'nt a 2 tank system both in the bed on 79?

I'm not 100% sure but I think anything that had a tank in the cab would have been a single tank system. Dual tank models would have had a saddle bag tank on the driver's side around 12-24 inches behind the driver's door. The only thing I've even seen with a tank in the cab around here is my buddy's 1969 Ranger. I haven't seen anything newer ( up to 79 like your asking ) with a tank in the cab. But. I could be wrong. Just my two cents.

Just something I forgot to add above on my post.
* Dual tank models would have had a saddle bag tank on the driver's side 12 to 24 inches behind the driver's door mounted on the frame. The 2nd tank would be mounted at the end of the frame rails in between the frame at the back. Hope this clarifys.

My 79 has a spot for two tanks - right behind the driver's side door and at the back between the frame rails, as previously noted. I am about to install a new front tank tank on mine (it's a supercab and that changes some of the minor details I have been told). I'll let you know how it goes when I get it done.

the reason i am asking is i think someone swapped the cab on my current truck with an older model with the tank behind the seat. so currently i have a tank in the cab and the tank at the rear of the frame.

Yes, the 78,79's had two tanks external to the cab.
The main tank is mounted at the rear and the Aux tank's mounted on the side of the frame just behind the cab

that is what i was afraid of, i guess i am going to have to either change cabs or patch up the hole and get rid of the in cab tank. thanks for the info
