Have a quick question, read about spring upgrade in the tech folder for the Ex and found some leafsprings on the innerweb that are off a 2008 F250. Are those a good option for upgrade over stock 05ers in an Ex? Im looking to solve the handling issue as well as level things out. I'm good with an increase in height.
Also, how do you find spring code? Is it on label in door jamb? I can't find where i read that.
There is actually a way to do this, so I've been told. But...it involves moving the front spring perch forward by 8" to accommodate the longer asymmetric springs. PDombrowicki has done this. I think the rear hanger location can remain unchanged.
But...more than the front spring perch must change, IIRC. The 2008 axles are different and thus probably have a different mounting block for clamping to the spring(?). I don't know--never tried it.
The 08+ springs actually are weaker than the 99-07 years. Ford tired to soften the ride by adding softer springs and larger rear blocks.
I had the factory G code rear springs with 300,000 miles on them when I hauled home 20 50lb play sand bags at just over 1000lbs. The EX fit it all nice and snug with minimal sag in the rear, maybe 2.5 inches of overall sag.
I took a 700lb skid home with my bumpers yesterday with my 14 F250 and from 700lbs it squatted closer to 3 inches.
IMO swapping the 08+ springs will do the same as the factory G code springs.
