The shifter on my 1994 F150 has "turned" and now when I put it in 1st the **** hits the dashboard. Its also difficult to find 3rd gear from 2nd and 4th.
I took it to a local garage and after a quick 10 minute inspection, they informed me that the entire shifter was defective. They said they wanted to order an entire new shifter assembly ($288 from Ford) - but once they got it and removed the old one - the transmission might have to be replaced.
Doesn't seem right to me. I certainly cannot see replacing an entire transmission because the shifter doesn't shift properly. In addition, I can't see replacing the shifter assembly.
Anyone have any idea?
You might have to replace the whole top cover of the transmission, but you should be able to buy the shifter stub separately. It's not hard to fix - havack (the owner of BroncoData) had to do that repair to the M5OD he swapped into his '93 Bronco last year.
