The same thing happened around here about 10 years ago but that driver didn`t make it. It was in the summer just before 6 pm and it`s possible that the driver was looking directly into the sun.

Ahhhhh yes, that westerly sun set. Blinding. There's usually a reason for everything, sometimes its just plain a mistake. Hopefully the intersection gets addressed. Sounds like it needs a look at.

The article seems to suggest that the intersection doesn't have lights or marker arms, and that travelling from a specific direction you cannot see if there is a train coming. No doubt the driver could have been more attentive, as we all could, but it seems that there is more than just driver error here...
