Looking at more used trucks

So with my 91 F600 sitting waiting for me to fix her a** end, I started cheatin' on her and looking at other used trucks out there.

1) Saw a wrecked 94 L8000 dump truck with 8.3 Cummins (164,000 miles), Eaton 10 sp GVWR 33,000. Can't tell from the pics what "happened" in the wreck ...... front driver's side munched but not sure if it whacked the frame. - OFFER.

2) 1990 L8000 w/ 16ft grain box - here's desc. (Doesn't say which motor --- found out it's the same 6.6L diesel I have in my disabled F600)

1990 Ford L8000 grain truck, 16 ft, 500 Bu, diesel,15 speed Road Ranger, 500 bu. box, single axle W/ pusher. Rebuilt engine less than 10,000 MI

All tires are at at least 50%. Grain box has wood floor in good condition. Since it has no tarp, it has been stored inside. Windshield/windows have no chips or cracks, seats in excellent condition, interior very good. Has not been smoked in.

Rebuilt engine with less than 10,000 miles, new power steering pump, rebuilt radiator, new airbag on driver's side, new batteries, leaf springs replaced, marker lights rewired and new brake lights installed. Brakes in excellent condition. Transmission, PTO and hoist all strong.

DOT'd every year, but will need to be done for '13. Service records available. Tach and radio do not work. Selling due to shoulder injury.

asking $10,000 :0

3) 1982 F600 cab and chassis 8.2 Detroit 119,000 Make Offer (asking $2500)

4) 1990 F600 cab and chassis gas motor (low miles?) $3800

So - in #3 and 4 I'd be looking mostly for the rear end but perhaps be interested in the Detroit motor until I heard the "hate point two" label. The Detroit 8.2 has a bad history? How bad? Parts available?

#1 - would be a potential fixer-upper if frame isn't toasted along with balance of truck. How's the 8.3 Cummins history?

#2 - would have to be cheaper and would be a punt on my current rig and looking at replacement. This unit is running a tag axle ad they swear it gets going even with a load. Does that seem likely w/ the 6.6L motor just running through the 15 speed tranny? Oh - it does run air brakes too. Not the hydraulic setup like I have in the F600.

Sounds like me, Always looking does not matter if I need one. Been looking while I rebuild my old 1987 F800

Will you have to replace the whole rear end or just the chunk?

Only need the chunk but if it ends up a whole axle assembly is easier to locate and/or cheaper ... well. What can I say?

Always looking - seems like some sort of disease, doesn't it?

The 8.3 cummins is a good engine. Mines an auto and it was getting 8 mpg pulling trailer (same as the 05 duramax was getting ) but I just turned the pump up a bit,,, haven't pulled with it yet.
