Back of dump truck No air

I have a 1990 ford L8000 single axle dump truck with a Brazilian 6 cylinder hooked to a new BWS air tilt & air ramp trailer. The trailer tilt gets its air from the red air hose at the rear ,the red button in the tractor .when I push the red button IN (release) with the yellow tractor parking brake OUT (Applied ) on the tractor no air comes out rear of dump truck to raise trailer to load .Unless I push the Yellow tractor parking brake in (release)position with the yellow in only then will air come out the red if the red is pushed in.I know have both the dump truck & trailer brakes released to supply air to tilt NO BRAKES WILL ROLL AWAY What am I doing wrong how do I fix it

You need to not use the system designed for brake release and application to try and run your air gates. These are set up to where the Yellow is the master if you will. Yellow has to be pushed in to supply air as well for the red.

A separate air control for the ramps is really what is needed. Easy enough to do.

At least that is my opinion.

Yes, you need to get a line from the air tank, through a one way check valve, to the back with a quick connect. Then plug trailer into it and use a valve on the trailer to operate the ramps/bed.

Using the brake air system is NOT recommended or safe to do.

Thanks dmanlyr for responding. Can I change the air valves in the cab to over come my problem, not that I want to. Does it mater which air tank I tap into to get the air from.Iam guessing I would like to use the same hard plastic air line that is used all through my air system instead of cutting up a rubber shop hose. When I get the air line to the rear of the truck ( which will remain as a perminet part of the truck Iam guessing)what kind of connection do I install on the end of the air line .

AGAIN, you should not tie into your dedicated airbrake system for the air supply. If jury rigged, at a minimum you will fail a inspection at a weigh station. At worse.. you can kill someone if your braking is compromised.

You should have a secondary air tank that supplies things like the air wipers, air tailgate release/latch, air PTO engagement, air horn etc. I would use this tank myself. I would include a shutoff valve (as well as the mentioned one way check valve) in the line going rearward close to the source, but easy to get to.

As to the air line material, if you like the DOT brake spec stuff, then use it. As to the connections, why not use a standard air hose coupling. That way you can always charge your trailer air system with a shop compressor if needed as well as no mix up with the brake glad hands.

Find your air tanks. Usually two on later model trucks(even three sometimes). With some luck you will find a plug you can remove and install a new line that you can run to the rear.

Go to your local big truck parts store(or dealer if you have no other options). Purchase some 3/8" or 1/2" plastic DOT air line and some fittings. Some kind of quick disconnect for the rear(like you use for air tools, but larger).
