I'm usually over in the EX forum but today was working on my brothers 1998 F150 - V8 4.6L. Had the EGR code P0401 and thanks to FTE I found the problem took the throttle body off and found it was definitely plugged. One of the bolts was really loose and came off way to easily. Didn't realize until cleaning why....ugh! Now I drilled 8 studs out of my aluminum EX heads but this one has me pondering how I'm going to clamp this thing down and center a bit....thoughts and suggestions welcome....
1st pic - ports WOW - guessing this was the problem
2nd pic - bigger issue - ugh!
I would use a center punch and tap a dimple in the center for the drill bit to hold center and hold it on a bench with other hand, use a sharp bit to go through it like butter, then use and easy out sized for the bit, last resort a retap job, good luck

Got it with a right angle and some colbat bits, used a dremel to do a pilot hole on center, was able to pick out a portion of it and the just tapped the top part and new bolt threads in fine.
I'm thrilled because my brother bought this truck yesterday at the auction and bet me that I couldn't get the check engine light and code fixed with in 24 hours, if I do I get the truck.
nice work! And that sounds like a great deal if he sticks to it!
He will stick to it, it's a family code. If I can't fix the CEL by noon tomorrow then the other side of the bet is I buy this Ford from him for 2k, he paid 2,850 at the auction.

I will do that when I put it together in the morning. Thanks
Well it's my new winter DD, he signed the title over; CEL is gone and it runs great. Now just need to get a stock air box and remove the CAI the PO did a horrible job installing and bolt up a muffler.
Nice job.. Thanks for putting up the pictures. I have to tackle this as well..
You are welcome. Hope it helps. I was very shocked at how bad the entire throttle body was on this truck. I have cleaned the TB on my Ex and ya it was bad but this one unbelievable. I read you will need pipe cleaners. Ha! all I can say to that is pipe cleaners my ***! I needed a chisel, punch, hammer, pipe file, 3 cans of carb cleaner, an hour of soaking and ya I used the pipe cleaners the last 2 minutes to polish it up.
