You read about an issue someone is having here and than your truck decides to
show the same symptoms?
Loaded the truck up with a load of logs yesterday.
Pulled out of the woods and as I get into 4th and give her gas and she starts the stutter, pop, hesitation blues. 1st time in the few months I have owned her.
I haven't had time to look into it and hoping it's just a simple fix and not worst case.
Only the 2nd time I loaded her down heavy and she was sitting high and light in the front even with that heavy old 460.
Besides that though she was a beast bringing home the heat for the winter.
yea inline filter will be replaced since I haven't done it yet since I bought it.
I didn't know you could put seafoam in a gas tank. I've read about using it on the vacuum side.
I just hope it isn't a valve and it's as simple as a dirty filter/bad vacuum line or possibly the power valve.
Disappointing so early into owning it though since it just seemed to happen out of nowhere. I floored it when I bought it and didn't show those symptoms.
Guess it needed a heavy ton to show itself.
Oh and the stereo died too on the same day.. no tunes
I've got the timing pretty far advanced on my 460. A couple of days ago I got some fuel that apparently didn't have the same octane rating that the pump said it had. I turned the engine off once and it dieseled a bit and blew back through the carb. When I started it again it ran like crap. It had blown the vacuum cap off the large fitting on the vacuum tree on the intake manifold.
I have issues like that when I use too much gas with alcohol in it back to back. Try filling up a few times on alcohol free gas.
Well unfortunately in this state; stations have the option to label if their fuel has ethanol or the percentage of it. Some stations do label some don't. I've been running shell in it. The shells around here don't have any labels.
I did put about 5 gallons of some possibly 10% ethanol when I first bought the truck but that gas should have been used/diluted by now.
I'm going to grab up some seafoam tomorrow and put some in before I take it back out to work. I don't drive it daily but I'm going to need to burn through that fuel and the additive which shouldn't take long with my 460.
You can still get gas without alcohol in it? I haven't seen any without around here in several years. Of course, I'm a hundred miles plus to any cities of any size. Nearest is Austin and it's 110 miles from me.

I have no idea. I kind of expect all the gas around here to have some ethanol in it.
I like to think wishfully there are stations that still don't buy the blend but without testing the fuel I'll never know for sure.
Pure-gas doesn't list much for stations around here and I 'd rather put money in my vehicles than buy 1 time use gas testing kits.
If someone knows of a cheap test that can be used more than once. Post up the link
because I would love to know for sure.
Maybe I can try to pull a sample and let it sit and see how it settles out.
Might give an idea or not.
They have ethanol stabilizer/treatment you can get too. I use it on my boat when I can't get ethanol free. It's not too expensive and I haven't had any problems with it. I use seafoam in my bike every couple tanks and haven't had any problems there either.

Yea you're quite right. I think it's time to start buying stabilizer.
Funny thing is, I never had to use it before. My 40 year old tractor gets what I put in my vehicles + a little MMO; mainly because the old kohler needs rebuilt.
On a side note I bought the seafoam but I haven't used it yet in the truck.
I had some MMO and figured I should try that first. So I took the truck out to work in the woods Weds. Leaving the house I got into it a little and it did the same thing again.
Once it warmed up more though it didn't seem to have a problem with me flooring it.
When I left the woods the other day I didn't really give it much time to warm up. Just once it idled down I took off. So she just might be a bit cold blooded and me a little impatient even though the carb kicks down and acts like it's ready to roll. I let her warm up a little more before leaving the woods with it loaded and I didn't notice any issues either. (smaller load this time as well)
Gas is too dang expensive though to let it idle for more than 5 minutes.
Seafoam is still on the agenda for her though. Right after I replace the fuel neck hose to the tank.. Which was why I opted for the MMO and not the seafoam right away. I didn't want any of that leaking onto the ground..
It's always something.. Don't you love it
If it runs fine when it warms up then it could be your choke. I'd check vacuum hoses and if you have an electric choke I'd check the current and connections.
Still run seafoam when you get a chance though. That stuff's great.
