Transmission Flush @ 333K and beating a dead horse
Hi everyone!
Just called the Ford Dealer in my area to schedule a Transmission flush and he thought it would not be a good idea. I have never done any transmission work and it seems to be running great.
Since I have never done it I thought this would be a good time to go synthetic with Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and WIX 58968 Auto Tran Filter.
I have read over and over as long as you do a fluid replacement there is no problem.
What do I say to the tech when they are not sure if such a service should be done.
I had mine flushed by a trusted Lube shop Sat. while watching Aggies get their clock cleaned by Alabama and used Valvoline Maxlife DexMerc for only $99.-10% Sr.discount. I didn't even get my hands dirty. LOL!
I have seen trucks that had high mileage and never any trans work done, get a trans flush and wouldnt pull out of the parking lot. All of the clutch friction material breaks down into the fluid, when the fluid got flushed it took the friction material with it. There is nothing left for the clutches to grip. The dealer didnt want to be responsible if the transmission quit.
50/50 chance. It will either help the trans or kill it.
I have heard of the same seen it happen. Always told if it had gone that long leave it alone. I have 169000 on my truck I bought from a buddy and he never changed it either. I have been thinking of doing it but am scared for this reason too.
Mine had 160k when I got it. I dont know if it had been done or not, it looked nasty. I did a flush on it and it still works great. I used a flush machine, when I put 15-20k miles on it Im going to drop the pan and change filter ect.

I did the exact same thing on my previous EX, at 154k and at 165k. No problems here.
