My experience with My Ford Touch
Bluetooth: I have one of the most popular smart phones available (iPhone 4S) and the Bluetooth is very unreliable. Some times it will connect immediatly when I start the truck and begin playing where it was left off. Other times it will sit there idle showing BTS1 on the display and not play anything at all. Other times it will show unknown artist and play. Yet other times it will start playing through my phones speaker and not through the trucks stereo. Also, there is a huge delay when answering a call using Sync.
Responsiveness: The system is very slow to respond to touch screen input, and sometimes will not respond at all until I press something else and then go back to what I was trying to do. This becomes a huge distraction while driving. For example: I press the lower left corner to go into the stereo settings and nothing happens. If I press the lower right to go into climate controls and then back to the stereo it will usually work.
System Clock: Sometimes the clock will be completely inaccurate. If I touch the clock as though I was going to set it, it will show the correct time.
Entertainment: I have the premium Sony audio with 8? speakers. When switching stations (especially Sirius) the response is very slow. Also, the overall quality of the sound is poor when listening to Sirius. The sound quality of the entire system in general when listening to good sources such as iPod plugged in or CD, is pretty good... Nothing compared to the THX certified sound that my 2006 Lincoln had, but still good. The one complaint is that the system seems to almost lose power when the volume is turned up. It will sound really good and then just completely drop off like someone turned the volume **** down.
Navigation: Navigation seems to function pretty good when you are able to find a waypoint. However, more often than not I have been unsuccessful in being able to find my destination when searching. The maps seem to be pretty decent, however a $160 dollar Garmin Nuvi from Walmart would be a MUCH better investment than the $795 navigation that Ford is offering.
My questions: Has anyone else had similar thoughts or experienced this with their My Ford Touch system? Has anyone went to the dealer to inquire on a fix? I know when I bought the truck, the system had received an update as part of the dealer prep before I picked it up.
My suggestion to anyone looking at a Ford with My Ford Touch; I would not pay anything extra for it as it will be more of an annoyance than anything.
My only complaint is probably due to my slightly left over southern accent that the audible commands don't seem to understand very well. Maybe they should have a redneck setting.
I'm Kim. I'm stopping by to help Jaclyn out.

I have a couple troubleshooting steps that will help! First, your MyFord Touch system will need to be reset. Although it will delete all of your settings, it is necessary. Here are instructions for a master reset: How to Perform a Master Reset | MyFord Touch | Ford.com Make sure the reset goes through completely. "Resetting to Factory Defaults" should appear on the screen, followed by a Ford logo. The SYNC logo will appear after a blank screen. You'll see the scheduled system maintenance screen, then the main screen will reappear. If any of these screens are skipped, walk through the same process.
Once the master reset is complete, hold down the POWER button and HOME button on your iPhone until the Apple logo appears. Pair your phone back to the MyFord Touch system; you shouldn't experience any more issues. However, if you don't see an improvement in the functionality, your dealer will be best to assist.
I hope this helps! Let me know the outcome.
Kim
Thanks a bunch for jumping in there!
I have the basic SYNC in my 2011 XLT and I'm far less than impressed. I haven't been able to pair my new phone yet, that's been about 16 months. I guess it's not that important, I haven't been to the dealer or really complained about it, and I'm not gonna take the time.
At this point, I would never choose one Ford vehicle over another just because of the mytouch feature.
outofmytouch - delayed reboot app
The '13 MFT / Nav / Sync system is laden with software bugs. Mine does everything the OP described and more. Reboots "help" but don't cure the underlying problem.
Kim, Any idea when the software update is due?
I did not opt for the navigation and use my Garmin instead.

What type of phone do you have and who's the carrier? I'll confirm compatibility; in the meantime, here are the instructions for pairing:

The update will be available sometime this month, but I don't have an exact date yet. Once it's released, an announcement will be made here:

Kim...thanks for posting! It is great to ave people like you here on the board and all of us really appreciate help like that.
I was also pleasantly surprised when I plugged my Zune MP3 into the USB port in the center console. My Touch read and indexed the entire volume of the Zune in about 3 minutes....it reads, displays and plays the contents flawlessly. Though I really love the Sirius radio, it's so nice to be able to bring with me and rock out to my own tunes on some of my long trips. I've had the new truck just a little over 2 months and have 7000 miles on it already!

Thank you. It's a Samsung phone touch screen carried by Verizon. It's not a smart phone.

No problem at all! I’m happy to help out where I can.

I suggest performing a soft reset to your phone. This will strengthen the Bluetooth connection without erasing any presets on your MyFord Touch System. On most phones, you can remove the battery for about 30 seconds, the replace it. When the phone is powered back up, it should connect much faster.

Hello 04 FX4 Lineman,
That’s exciting! It will most likely have the updated software, but you can verify right from the truck when you get it. Just press the following on your MyFord Touch display: SETTINGS TAB (the picture of 2 gears) > HELP > SYSTEM INFORMATION. Scroll down until you see CCPU S/W VERSION. The last five digits should be 13171.

Do you happen to know the model number of your phone, tseekins? What is happening when you attempt to pair it?

I’m glad your son was able to get that resolved. If you begin to notice a specific command/function that is responding slowly, provide me with details. I’ll help with troubleshooting!

Updated SYNC/device compatibility information
The installation of this update will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Be sure to keep your engine running, not in accessory mode, throughout the entire installation process. Turning off your vehicle during the update installation will disrupt the process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you begin the installation process, you may drive your vehicle while the update is downloading to your SYNC system. If your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Access with Push Button Start feature, you will need to temporarily disable the Automatic Engine Idle Shutdown (AEIS) component before beginning the installation in order to prevent your vehicle from timing out and shutting off the engine before the software update is complete. To disable this feature, use your steering wheel controls to navigate to the Settings menu on your left-hand Instrument Cluster LCD display. From there, select Vehicle >Auto Engine Off >Off. (If you do not see this setting, there is no need to make any changes before starting the update.) Alternatively, after initiating the installation, you may drive the vehicle during the update process to avoid the engine shutting off. The AEIS will automatically reset to "On" the next time you start your vehicle.
Please note: During the update installation, SYNC will temporarily appear to not recognize your mobile phone or media device. This is normal.
When your system has been successfully updated, SYNC will display a notification saying, "Installation complete."
