I'm having a tough time with my 97 4x4 5 speed. Once I put my foot into it in 5th the cel comes on and it turns into a dog. If I shut it off and restart it it runs fine till I do the same thing. When the cel comes on the icp won't go over 2471 and the ipr is 34.9 wot. Changed the oil 1k miles back and just replaced icp thinking I had found the problem. No problems starting and there is no rough idle. This is my first diesel so speak slow and use small words. Thanks
New wrinkle this morning. It took longer for the cel come on. After it did I pulled over and shut it off then restarted it. It would not start. Icp was showing 323 while cranking. I pulled thee icp plug and it coughed and sputtered but did start. Icp was showing 727 at idle same as when the cel is on. Dont know if this helps or makes it more complicated. The map tube is clear.
I'd like to hear other opinions, but I think you have a sticking ipr going off this last statement. The code is stored in the computer if you haven't removed the battery cables.
P0001, 0004, 0006, 0007, 0076, 0110, 0111, 0173, 1900, 2873, 3426, 3920
I am unable to clear the codes so I don't know what's old or current. Even removed battery cables for over an hour and was still getting the same codes
Those codes don't make a lot of sense to me. That scanner can't be reading right, some of those don't exist on the powerstroke.
Have you visually inspected the harness on the outside of the vc's?
I'm thinking ipr because I think you should have been higher than 34% dc at wot. Then when you unplugged the icp it "unstuck" it somewhat and fired, but has been randomly sticking on you. You can pull it and disassemble it and clean it, if it is your problem it sometimes seems to work to clean them. If you pull it you will need orings to put it back in.
The ipr does go higher just not when the cel is on. It seems like the cel comes on when I really get into the throttle for more than a few seconds. Didnt look at the uvch but have seen lots of threads on it. Was just wondering if it could cause these symptoms
