flashing check engine light '01 Navigator

I am new to this site...

I had the timing tensioner and guide replaced on my navigator, and after had a tune up done. I am now getting a check engine light that starts flashing with acceleration.

I tested the errors and found the following error codes:

p0171
p0301
p0305
p0307
p0306

I now have a rough idol and labored acceleration

Any idea as to what the issue is? and what I can do to correct it.

side note I am three steps below a N00b when it cones to engines and I have never attempted a do it yourself project.

When the CEL flashes it means there is enough raw fuel getting into the exhaust system to destroy the catalytic converters and that the truck should not be driven.

The P0171 is telling you that the passenger side of the engine is running lean. The 4 other codes indicate misfires on cylinders 1, 5, 7, & 6 respectively. To me it sounds like the rubber boots for the COPs (Coil Over Plug) are brittle and were damaged enough during the R&R process to crack them. You can get new boots from the auto store for about $3 each and swap them on those 4 cylinders. The lean code might go away after fixing the 4 misfires.

Thanks, I am attempting this tonight.

Use dielectric grease inside the boots before you slide them down onto the spark plugs. It significantly aids the installation and future removal of the COPs.

If you don't find your problem with the coils then I would be suspect of the cam timing or possibly a sensor that didn't get plugged back in given your scenario.

The tensioner and guides were replaced but not the timing chains? Who did this job? Are you sure whoever did this didn't have the chains off and possibly put them back on wrong? And your current condition happened immediately after the work was done on the timing components? What exactly was replaced during the tune up? Just the plugs?

My 2001 5.4 was throwing your same two lean codes for a couple years (cold weather only / every few days) until I pulled the intake and replaced the intake gasket. When I was in there, I replaced the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs. Not easy repairs. If you do the valve cover job, make sure to replace the rubber grommets on the valve cover bolts or the oil will leak past (yes, I had to pull the valve covers twice - second time with the intake in place --- what a beating).

I referenced these videos to help. Watched them all and took notes. Hope it helps, man. Good luck!
