Brake fluid change

I don't see when to change the brake fluid for an 04 Navigator so I will do at 100k, good/bad? I have 92k now. Is the process like most cars (without a bleeder) using the old school person in drivers seat pumping? Do I need to disconnect the battery? Also should the ATE Super Blue DOT4 be fine to use? Thanks.

Use the brake fluid specified in your owner's manual.

I like to flush every 2 years or so. More time dependant than based on mileage.

In 35 years of driving and car work I have never changed brake fluid, it's nothing but a waste of money. Now with DOT 3 and above being available as synthetic, I find it to be an even bigger waste of money.

The owner's manual has no recommend replacement interval for brake fluid.

I am old school .I now change my fluid after seeing issues in other autos . Brake fluid attracts moisture and holds it .That can cause internal rust issues . I had a clutch slave cyl go out on my 98 Kia . It is fed from the brake master ( stupid design ) . It was full of rust . After changing the wheel cyls, and seeing the same , I did some reading . Now , I change each 2-3 years in my vehicles . I also recommend it at my work .

Gravity bleed , done correctly , should be fine . Look at the cap , I think DOT 3 is called for , don't mix ! Battery disconnect is not needed .

Its not so much for the calipers, etc, but the sensors in the newer systems...especially the anti-lock motors.....it's one of these pay me now or pay me later scenarios
