Not quite sure whats in 74 f-250
First off cool forum, I just picked up a 74 F-250 Camper Special today. The owner told me it had a 390 in it, had a four barrel carb on it and I assumed he was right. Got to start cleaning the engine and i notice the tag says 360. The only engine #'s i could find are incomplete #04te-9c485-sb. The truck VIN is f25yls9783. I guess having a 4bbl carb has me stumped as i didnt think they were offered on a 360 in that year. The truck is pretty well complete and it doesnt appear to have an engine swap. f25Yls9783.- "Y" is the engine code for the 360
The best way it find out what engine it is is to verify the stroke -3.50 is a 360 and 3.75 is a 390.
I have seen dealer installed 4bbl intake manifolds so that might be the case here .
But then again over the years this truck could have had the 360 yanked out so that the " new " 390 could be put in .
Verify the stroke to be sure!
