I acquired a '77 F-250 4X4 with my deer lease and need to make some repairs to the front end, the passenger front drive U joint assy is gone! It was raining cats and dogs when I was getting ready to leave so I didn't climb under it to check the front suspension so I don't know if it is a Dana 60 or 44 on the front of this beast but I do want to fix it as next year I will have another truck to use out there. And I'll put this thing on the road!
This is a short bed two tone '77 but the rancher who sold it to me said he bought it new in '77 but it was a '78. It has a '77 split front grill and according to him has never been off the ranch since he bought it. It still has 78 steel plates and a 78 inspection sticker! It has a 351M and granny 4 speed and 4.10 gears, and is emmissions exempt. The exhaust is showing it's age, has split rims, the flex fan came apart somewhere and holed the hood, but it's been replaced. A couple of dings and really needs a wash but then this thing has been climbing in and out of Big Bend canyons for 25 years! Hell the odo only shows 32,000 miles and the thing fires on the first rip every time!
Yes it is a F-250 short bed, I dunno about a snow fighter package as it was bought in Ozona Tx, and has been in SW texas since new. I do know that it has an exemption sticker on the valve cover under thehood, and even with 3 wheels pulling, it came up out of a canyon pretty dang easily.
And I didn't buy it, the rancher just gave it to us, title and all as he has a new '03 F-350 PS 4X4 and didn't figure it was worth much.
I pretty shore you have a Dana 44 Heavy Duty. The numbers are stamped on the axle, you can match the numbers in any chilton book and it will tell you the axle you have.
