I got a 79 f150 2x4 that I'd like to convert to a 4x4 and I'm not sure if I can bolt a leaf spring d44 or d60 into the front. Is the frame width the same as the 79 f250? What else do I need to do to get this to work. It has the 351M so I'm guessing it's a c6?? Is that right? If so can I bolt a np 205 to it if I change the tailshaft?
If you want a 4x4 you should buy one. I have heard of people buying a 4x4 with a rusted old body and transplanting the body from a 2wd. You just have to get it titled properly.
The first thought was to put the immaculate two tone ranger body on a 4x4 frame but it seems like a lot of work and expense to buy another whole truck to do the transplant.
I was just curious as to whether or not I could do it more easily. If not so be it.
What difference are there between a 79 f150 4x2, a 79 f150 4x4, and a 79 f250 4x4 frame? I know there are frame width differences on these trucks but I don't know if it's 4x2 vs 4x4 or early vs later years or what.
Is it width, or is it just that there are not the proper mounting holes? Or are they just totally shaped differently. I can do some fab work if it's reasonable. If not I'll start looking for a 3x4 ton 4x4.
If I do a donor frame will my body bolt right on? I'm guessing if it's a width issue then it will not?? At least the bed won't right?
