I love my CCSB. I really do. It's nice to be able to park without doing a 50 point turn. Only a 15 point one. But I'm hating the short bed as I often find myself with cargo sticking out the back, hanging over the tailgate. There is also the potential that I could be moving to NC in about 6 months which would necessitate me hauling two old Broncos and all of my tools and parts.
So, I'm thinking about trying to trade "up" for a crew cab dually. I don't have a gooseneck yet. But if I move I think I'd like to get one to haul the Broncos and tools/parts with. I haven't seen many bumper pull trailers long enough to load everything. I could put a gooseneck on the CCSB, but I like the idea of stability the dually would provide.
I know it's unlikely that someone with a dually would be looking to downsize, but I can always hope.
So, has anyone ever successfully "up" traded for a dually from a "smaller" truck? Or have any dually owners ever stepped down into a SRW truck through a private party trade?
I'm just thinking out loud here Frank, looking at the problem from a different perspective...What would it cost to convert your truck to a one-ton dually? The rear axle is the same, is it not (except axle ends)? Are frame lengths different between a CCSB and a CCLB? I can tell you that once you pull with a dually you will never go back. I have always preferred the looks of the SB, but always bought the LB for its practicality.
I'm pretty certain frame lengths are different. Plus, I'm hoping to keep this as low cost as possible, if it happens. Meaning as close to a straight across trade as I can get.
The other piece I didn't mention is I would like to wind up with a manual truck versus an auto one. I like rowing gears and this is the third vehicle I've had that has an auto in it. I would have loved to have had a manual in this one, but it seems like CCSB trucks with manuals are as rare as unicorns.
Ever consider an older truck in your specs? (I don't have one) but still wish I could have found an OBS Dually when I bought mine....
May be a '97 PSD OBS Dually with a 5 speed??
Seems like it would be easier to just sell your truck and then try to find something. Here's a guy in Denver looking to do a trade similar to what you want: Ford F350 2000 Diesel Trade or
Your truck is probably nicer though. Idk what a grate bed is in that ad maybe a flatbed with sides. Good luck
I had a trade for an F450 lined up at one point. The truck was an XLT that was a little more aesthetically worn out than my truck with a few more miles.
I ended up backing out because I was uncomfortable going from my truck that I knew the entire history of to a truck that I knew nothing about.
The frame of a DRW longbed is longer than a SRW CC. ANd the rear axle is different, typically with 4.10 gears as opposed to 3.73 as well. You also have to run spacers on the front in order to run dually front wheels.

I read the link you posted. I think he's trying to say the 8' bed is in "great condition".
Frank, I have been looking for a 99-02 dually for the past few months. My dad has a 1990 7.3 dually and it is really becoming a PITA lately, so we are looking to upgrade his truck to one similar to old green (dually of course).
All the nice ones we find, are extremely over priced here in TX. 12-15k, /w 300k+ miles...... f250 cc shortbox brings more money. there are some really proud people out there......

Called him last night and got his voicemail. I'd concur with his intent at stating it is in "great condition" versus grate, as English doesn't sound to be his first language.
