I run what the manual recommends.
Running without a thermostat is foolish.
Running a 165F thermostat is almost as foolish.
For every 10F below 180 that your engine operates at the engine wear doubles.
In the summer time your engines operating temperature will depend on the balance between ambient temp, engine load, and cooling system efficiency.
