My 63 has a wrong bed and I wondering has anyone made any successful attempts at evening out that offset line? I was thinking about getting some stick on trim from pepboys and running a chrome piece on the top of the front line and bottom of bed line to set up a type of optical illusion to correct the offset. Any other tricks? I have been trying to find pictures online of wrong beds made right but havnt really seen any. thanks guys. Its not really that big a deal. i LOVE my truck but just super curious. thanks
Ok here is a pic of a fridge with the right bed designed for it.

Next a slick with a wrong bed that was designed for the fridge but installed on the slick. Why? You got to ask Henry Ford Jr that I suppose. Maybe Lee Iacoca he may have been pres of Ford at that time. Anyway theres your difference for what its worth and cause you asked for it.

Hey Bzz thanks so much. that last pic looks exactly like my truck. Buzz if i took my truck to a body shop and asked them to lower the bed some so the lines line up...would this be a big job to have done or even possible at all?

If that line bugs you so much why not just get a 64-66 "right" bed and put on it?
Hey 37 ford, I feel like that hunting down a good 64-66 shortbed in good condition will be even more expensive and challenging that shifting my current bed down a bit in order to visually appease. BUT on that note i will now go look and see if theres anything on craigslist near the SFV ca area.

Yeah, the 64-66 shortbeds are a little hard to find and can be a little pricey but I can't imagine that a "right" bed would cost more than having a body shop try to modify your wrong bed. The "wrong" bed is a kinda love it or hate it thing, but it is what it is. Personally, I wouldn't spend any money trying to mod the wrong bed. Either keep it like it is or just sell it and use the money towards buying the "right" bed. JMHO
Mr Vic by the way, Things have changed a lot since the 1960s, the truck was almost considered a red headed stepchild. I remember my dad would only drive his on our church property if they were having a work day and it was needed to move something.
The Uni was introduced in 61, since it was a single action and not included on all models they kept using the older beds. The uni was a disaster, doors would snap open along with other issues. Amazing you don't hear that from the survivors.
So they dropped the idea in the middle of 63 and the two piece system came back in 64. This is how I recall and not cast in stone.
concur
#1 drop bed if that won`line it up rase cab.
#2 print out a few of you pics try drawing out some graphic lines nothing wild something that will blend them better.then use paint or appliqué. a sign shop that does vinyl can make it happen.

With a different chassis my bed lines were 6" off so I fixed it . . .
A couple spot welds here a couple spot welds there, a bit of fab and the next thing you are done!

Hey Ianmattf100 if your truck is the long bed 63 with a wrong bed. You will have to add onto your frame to get the rear wheels in the right place or move your rear axle back for proper alignment of the later stylside bed. Have you considered finding a long flairside bed for your truck as the wheel base may work in that platform. Our trucks have 120" wheelbase and the 64 up with the newer stylside is a longer wheelbase. Hence the rear axle is in the wrong place for a newer styleside box. Again Im guessing from what you said above and did not mention wether yours was a long or short box. Good luck with it Ill be watching and waiting to see what you come up with.
Hey buzz its a short bed. Being so will this make things a bit easier on me? I'll be talking to a bodyshop this weekend to see what they think and possibly get a quote. Really hoping its not going to cost a ton.

I'm about 99.9% sure the 64-66 shortbed will bolt right on your truck without all the drama of a long bed.
