you can, it will look very funny with such a small tire though.
people around here will buy cheap snow tires in whatever size. i've seen an excursion and super duty with 245s and it was laughable. also have seen a expedition with a 225/70 16. that was even funnier.
You can run that size, it's a little smaller (just over an inch overall). So it will look a little funny. I actually went the other way on my old truck, it had the size you want as stock and I replace them with 265 75 16 (stock on the Ex). And with the tires you're asking about. They were a really good over all tire. I replaced them in the winter and they had excellent traction in the snow. I tried them with out 4x4 to see what they'd do and I was able to get around in only 2 wheel drive.
Yah I was thinking I found a deal on smaller but the larger are the same price so no point, I actually wanted to go bigger and higher but trying to work on a budget, imagine that lol.
I goto a local shop and typically i get a better price out the door then from any of the national chain places. The one I goto has always taken care of me as far as plugging holes rotations ect.
If you are going to run that tire please make sure they are at least Load Range D but Load Range E is the best.
Also you will be offsetting your speedometer and odometer so it will appear that you are going faster than you are and putting more miles on than you are. The difference is about 4%. So if your speedo reads 60MPH you are going more like 58MPH. Every actual thousand miles you go will end up reading 1,040 miles.
With my truck I have it the other way around. My tires are larger than stock by 9.2% so 70MPH on the speedo is 75MPH in real life. Also if I put on 1K miles I've actually gone 1,092 miles.

When I got my Excursion, it actually had 235/85/16 tires on it. It did look funny. They were the right height but WAY too skinny.

oh 235/85 16s are awesome! i used to run some as studded snow tires and i did run a set on my '04 one summer also. those i think are fine because they are the same overall height as 265s just skinnier.
OP; that's not that good of a deal and they are too small. I pass those up all the time at garage sales. Give me 265/75-16's E rated with 60 pounds all around and I am a happy dude. Going to get some Treadwright retreads (gaurd gogs) with studs next time.
