Here is the Ford on its way home. My friend was in Yorkton for a tow so I got him to swing by and bring it home for me.
Right now the Ford is in my shop getting cleaned up. It had a 2" seat lift installed, fully welded of course. So now I can't fold the seat forward because the cab gets narrower up top and the seat won't clear, but I want to clean up the interior. Also going to pull the PTO hydraulic pump for the hoist and rebuild or reseal it and make a nicer bracket. Maybe rebuild the battery box.
I also have an 86 Ranger. It was free. I'm parting it out. Runs great but not Sask plateable.
Welcome aboard and thanks for becoming a chapter member!
Sweet truck, hopefully you`ll have it for many years to come and once the diesel is in it it`ll be even better.
Buy a donor vehicle. Probably a school bus with a 6bt or T444e, budds wheels, hydraulic brakes. Use as much of the school bus as possible to update the Ford while keeping a classic look. I will look at possibly running the 53 front beam with the school bus outers so I can have newer bearings and brakes with the stock truck width. Replace the grain box with a stake bed. Retain the hoist and integrate some sort of gooseneck hitch. Use as a classic driver/real working truck.
I have a "few" (haha) other projects on the go right now, so for the next year or two I might just drive it with the flathead. Then again I have a history of getting carried away with projects and I am looking for a drivetrain donor every day. It currently runs GREAT, the engine and carb have been gone through recently. The carb isn't perfect, leaks some fuel on the intake manifold after shutting the truck off, but for now I'll just leave that as an 'oh well'. I have to rebuild/replace the master cylinder and probably clean out the tank (starves for fuel sometimes) and I will also rebuild the PTO hydraulic pump and its mounting brackets so that is clean and functional.
Anyone know about these hydraulic pumps? Where I can find a rebuild kit?
Pulled the hydro pump and snapped a pic. Easy job to pull, after scraping 50 years of oily dirt and dust build up.
snapped a pic.
Might wait to rebuild it until I know what kind of hydraulic setup the new engine will have. Hopefully the trans has provisions for a PTO to keep things simple.
