Question 2000 350 4x4 7.3 diesel..leaking ? (fuel?)

Aloha,
I just sold my Chevy turbo diesel (that my horse could outrun) and looked/drove a 350 4x4 7.3 Ford this am, that had 55K miles on it. When I climbed under it, there was a leak of ? Appeared to have the consistancy of diesel BUT WATERY...could the fuel filter water drain be slightly open? I would have checked, but just finished reading about two miles of threads to find out the info! Also, on take off (automatic trans), there was a slight "clunky" noise, you really had to listen, more of a feel than a noise. I REALLY can't afford to buy somebody problem. I am a fairly knowledgeable female who doesn't mind getting dirty, please help.
Thanks in advance,
Shelly

Hi shelly, welome to the board.

I don't think it's too likely the drain is open. 50psi of fuel pressure will turn a little crack into a big one in short order. The o-rings in the drain shutoff have been known to fail, and that wouldn't be much of a problem, but a friend of mine with a 96 PSD developed a leak a few months back, and somehow the filter housing had cracked. $$$

There are a number of place fuel could be leaking, if it's puddling up anywhere, I'd let somebody else buy it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am debating if I would like to spend the $ to have the dealer trouble shoot the truck or not...Wish we had a better selection here in the islands. Looks like I'll be headed to the mainland...
Thanks again,
Shelly

You might look around the fuel filter somemore with the truck running, you might find something minor happening. I started my truck one day this winter and noticed something dripping off the back of the block (diesel). As I looked under the hood I noticed some diesel dripping off a vacuum pickup located to the right of the fpr assembly. The drip was nominal, but had been there for a while, filling the valley until it overflowed. Looked much worse than it was, in other words.

Another .02 worth....

it looked watery? did it smell like diesel? because the ford air conditioners condensate ALOT and will often leave a large puddle under the truck. Which side was the "leak" on?
