Ill admit I cant look at this car too long I do get physically excited ..... never thought I'd be saying that about a Fusion. I'm not sure if I'd trade in the diesel but debating getting a 3rd job....
They are sweet...and with an ecoboost powerplant, I've got my eye on one. About the only other car that gives me wood (besides the new mustang) is the Taurus SHO, but with a 50+g price tag, it won't be in my garage for a while...
Id buy my wife, or daughter one, dont think id drive one (as a daily driver) myself. Im not a huge (new) car guy though, so I personally find it hard to get excited for them.
I'm not a huge car guy either unless its a muscle/sports/exotic car. We just bought a 2012 Fusion a couple weeks ago and I really like it. Rides nice, plenty of room, the 4cyl has respectable power and hopefully will get equally as respectable fuel economy. The Jeep we had was a pig on fuel, using as much or more than my truck at times. The Fusion is an SE model, so the std a/t/c, pw/pd, for less than 20g with family pricing? Can't go wrong.
For small vehicles under a 3/4 ton I stay away from a diesel power train, I figure that unless it gets alot of daily miles to me it isn`t worth it. I may not have your type of good luck!
I dunno man, diesels are awesome in suv's, they would be awesome in half tons as well. Good fuel economy, good power, easy to maintain, modern diesels (with the exception of a few) are generally pretty reliable, and not to mention diesel up here is cheaper then gas for what 10 months of the year?
And its not about luck! Its all about choosing the right one, not choosing an engine that is prone to have problems.
Good luck is winning the lottery, which I havent done.... yet!
Today`s diesels aren`t as simple as they once were, I think Cat has quit making on road diesel engines and gm long since quit diesels in their half tons. I did like the idea of diesel engines in smaller vehicles but pollution standards have ruined them...at least for now.
As much as I do like simple diesels, their is a plus to the new technology diesels as well. I know there is few chevy diesel fans in here, but izuzu is rocking their duramax diesels, they are up there in the most reliable diesels in a pickup truck, and looking under the hood will confuse ya.
EPA is making it hard on things for sure though, just THAT kinda world I guess now. I lived in BC before, and some evenings I would wash my truck, the next morning there would be ash from the smog on it. If the EPA did things right, they could maybe prevent that, but right now they are a joke.
13-15 around town, 20 on the highway if we were gentle. Really no suprise as it is a sizeable vehicle and that 6cyl is majorly underpowered for that application. I would have been more forgiving of the mpg if it was hemi powered and at least we had power to match with poor fuel economy.
I'm excited to see and drive one of the new Fusions with the Ecoboost. With AWD, 237hp and 250lbft of torque, it could be a fun car to drive.

Wow that is pretty bad, its even worse then our 01 grand cherokee gasser we had.
Our diesel jeep gets almost double what your gas does for economy. It is the perfect vehicle for my wife as it has 4x4, good economy, has some room in the back for this and that, plus it can fit four adults pretty comfortably. Its sorta like a jacked up 4x4 car that doesnt look as bad as a minivan haha.
Believe it or not, this Fusion has more room in it than the Jeep did, both passenger space and cargo. Only bonus with the Jeep is you could stack stuff a little higher in the back to get more stuff in. We may miss the 4x4, but the amount of driving that the vehicle will see in the winter is minimal and if need be I can lend wifey my truck for running around when its necessary...
