About a month ago I read in Hemmings that in 2013 Chevy plans to introduce a RWD, V8 powered High Performance car based on the new Chevy RWD, V8 Chevy police package car.
Apparently it will be called the Chevrolet SS and will be introduced at the 2013 Daytona 500.
You may well ask...why is this of interest to Ford fans.
My view is that Ford may do something to counter the SS. Yes there is the Mustang...but it competes against the Camaro.
I believe the Camaro and the Chevy police package's RWD chassis comes from the Australian Holden.
A high performance RWD, V8 Ford sedan...like something from the 60's...but updated would be of interest, IMO. *
The Ford vs Chevy Wars have been going on since time immemorial and invariably if either maker introduces a new vehicle...the other one is usually not too far behind.
* But on the other hand I sometimes wonder if the new Mustang, Camaro, Challenger are just of interest to us old guys (50's, 60's and older) and that the younger generation would prefer to have a modern FWD or AWD, turbo 4 cylinder hi po car ?
Your new ride maybe waiting, but unfortunately it looks like you will have to take up residence in Australia. Ford could bring over this high performance Australian Falcon....much like the new Chevy SS is based on the Australian GM brand...the Holden.

I'd be happy if Ford came back with the Mercury Marauder, which was a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis style with a supercharged 3valve 4.6 v8. Only produced in black. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marauder For the moment though, I bet the Taurus SHO with AWD and 3.5L Ecoboost power, will give the Chevy SS a run for its money...
From what I've read about the new Challenger, while it looks smoking hot and sounds cool, the performance and handling leave a lot to be desired. Perhaps this was intentional by Chrysler Corp so buyers would really get the "old school" feeling Another thing I don't understand about it is having to pay 2k more to get the 6sp manual transmission. In a comparison between the new Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger, the Camaro got most of the top nods mainly due to the Mustang having traction issues Can't remember which group did that comparo, might have been Top Gear?
I'd like Ford to return with a Lightning/Harley Davidson in supercrew/2wd format with some rubber burning supercharged v8 power...
Your right Morris. That Falcon in the link has all sorts of potential. A new 5 liter (ohv) crate engine, a 4 speed std....fog lamps, HD suspension, etc...make it into one of my all time favourites a mid-60's World Rally car as Ford did during their total performance program days back in the 1960's. See link.

But I think Ford needs to fight V8 power with V8 power, even tho I know the 3.5 Eco Boost goes like a scalded cat. Call me an old fogey...but I don't think anything can replace the sound of a healthy V8 and Ford has a couple...the 5 liter Coyote and the 6.2 liter truck engine. Both engines would be good engines.

I love this idea! Make it cool, not crappy like the new dodge dart 2 (basically dodge neon)
isn't that the dumbest creation ever? I heard some radio add talking about the new dodge dart, and all I could picture was the old Dart Swinger R/T and I got all giddy inside...until I seen what they really built. They did such a good job on the Challenger, I could only imagine what they really could have done with the dart...
