I'm currently rebuilding a Ford 400m for my '69 F100. This will be a daily driver with a performance engine. Need some recommendations for a carb. Not going to be running high rpm's, maybe 6k if I floor it on the on ramp but hopefully averaging around 4k. Running 351c 4 bbl closed quench heads with some big ports. Intake spacers with a 351c Edelbrock Torker (not the Torker II). Cam is a hydraulic flat tappet with a 262/268 duration with .540 lift on intake and .552 on exhaust. Also using 3/8 hardened pushrods. Not looking to get the best mpg since it's already a gas guzzler, but something that will still make it scream when i wanna show off my ponies any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Given the RPM, I suggest an Edelbrock 1406/1405, Holley 600 cfm with vacuum secondaries, or a Demon 625 cfm. On a budget? Opt for Summmit's house-branded 600 cfm with vacuum secondaries.
I'm using the same heads on my 351c with an AED 650HO, and my little 241°/248° @ .050", and my little motor has no problem turning to 7000....for the longer stroke of the 400, I'd at least go for a 750, like a holley 3310
I've heard about the retarded cams. Not on too tight of a budget, thinking of the performer maybe 650-750. Any comments on the thunder series? Would that be a street carb or more strip? Haven't heard much about it
I don't know much about Edelbrock's, so I can't comment on any of their carbs. Just curious, what gears are you planning on running out back? what transmission?
As of now, its stock but i plan on putting a Ford 9" on it. Not sure what gears i want to run but i'll look more into it when that time comes. I'm running the stock C6 with it. Might put a stall converter, might not
