intermittent loss of power P1151,P0171, P1131,P0174
I have a 2001 Expedition 5.4 eddie bauer 4x4 with 132k. I have owned it from 9k. It has been flawless until recently. I have recently replaced spark plugs, O2 sensor, Mass Air flow, PVC, fuel filter, injectors prof cleaned. I took the vacuum hose off the back of the engine to check it and it is fine. I have had it at two shops that ran the computer diagnostics. The truck runs great and then it looses power. It will go into a low kind of difficult idle but not miss. When you hit the gas it does not repond. It is like you didn't do anything. It will run like that for about a minute and then go back to being normal. This all can happen at 60mph that makes you do an emergency stop or on accelleration or at idle. Since it does not do at the shop they don't seem to know what to do. I left it with them for two weeks and no problem. The last shop said if it happens again bring it in for a fuel pump. It has happened again but I don't agree with the pump idea. Anyone else have a better idea?
Yes, the TPS is basically a strip of carbon with a metal contact that moves from one end to the other to vary the resistance. Sometimes the carbon strip will crack and can make or break contact due to temperatures. It is also possible for the metal contact to lose contact if there is dirt in there.
I appreciate the help, I replaced the throttle position sensor. When I tried to drive it - it would idle but not accelerate. After idling past 3 or 4 neighbors it took off. I drove it again tonight and it ran fine to costco and then on the way home I stopped at a stop sign in the parking lot and it would not acclerate away. I shut the engine off and restarted it and it ran fine for the 4 miles home.
Any additional ideas are welcomed
