46' loud carb suction noise after rebuild
Finally after months of working on my 46' flat six, she is back on the road. The issue I an having now is a loud suction sound coming from the carb.
I sent the carb to A-1 carbs in Cali (by the way they did an awesome job!)to have them rebuild it. I got the carb back and it runs and idles great, but when I am on the road I get a loud suction noise coming from the carb (which I never had before the rebuild). I have replaced the exhaust gasket and intake gasket and also the carb gasket. I have checked the only vacuum line (that I can see) on the carb intake maifold and no leaks. this is the vacuum line that goes to the dist. and the windshield wiper.
The only thing I have noticed other than it idling and running smooth, when I step on the gas at low throttle (first gear) no suction noise, at a quarter throttle (second gear) the suction noise starts, but if I stomp on the gas in third gear I get a hesitation and the suction noise goes away.
I am not sure if this is normal, as this is my first 1946 truck and I am not sure what is normal and what is not.any help or suggestions would be awesome! Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jeff
Yes I have the oil bath air cleaner on it. If I take the air cleaner off it is really loud. I am courious if your 46' makes the same noise? Because we have the same truck...not sure if you have the "g" six in yours or not. It just puzzles me the noise wasn't there before the rebuild. If it is normal, then I will just live with it. The suction noise is loud enough that people on the sidewalk turn to look where the noise is coming from. It almost sounds like I have a blower on it.
Thanks for the reply!
