I am about to change my motor oil. Realized that I may be short about a quart of Rotella 5w40, but I still have some Mobil 1 5w40. Is there a problem in mixing the two.
I have used both in the past. I use what ever is on sale. This time it was Rotella T6.

Won't hurt a thing as long as they're both CJ-4 rated oils. Anytime you do an oil change 3 to 4 qts. of the old oil are left in the engine so technically your always mixng oils during a change.
Is that the same leftover bottle of Mobil 1 5W40 from your head stud change John? No, it's fresher then that.
There's no harm in mixing oils, as long as you're not mixing engine oil with eight litres of Mercon SP when refilling your engine. I still wake up thinking I just finished my oil change and put in trans fluid instead.
Mike your as bad as my wife. She never lets me forget a little error.
