1940 Ford Pickup Seat

Does anyone have pictures they can post showing how the two original seat sections (bottom and back) should be mounted? It looks like mine have been modifed and I want to put it back the way it should be. The bottom springs are mounted on plywood with pieces added in the back for additional heighth. The back section has hinges on the bottom that appear to serve no purpose whatsoever. the top of the back seatspring appears to have a metal piece sticking up on the left and right side that slide into slots that are in the back of the cab wall. It is also mounted on plywood. I have seen new seat springs but it does not come with any plywood. I appreciate any all all help from everyone.

Thanks
Mike

Seat Question

Mike, from what you have mentioned here sounds like you have a made up seat in your truck.

First off going back to a 1937 seat which shares the same seat riser as the 1940. The bottom seat sits on that riser as should be and the seat bottom has 2 holes in the plywood. This is to adjust the seat foward and back, and it sits on 2 metal dowels comming from the seat riser, the holes in the plywood are approx at 3 inch centers.

The seat back as you mentioned has 2 steel pieces that come up the back and slide into brackets fastened on the back of the cab. Check to see it this looks to be a factory instalation. As for the hinges they serve no purpose, on the 37 seat.

Now onto another point of interest the cab on a 1940 is very close to those up to 1947. These cabs do have a hinge on the seat back and also on the seat bottom, as the gas tank on the later years is under the seat. Yours is at the rear of the frame, and has the filler neck comming through the left rear fender.

Your 1940 under the seat is a storage area, and could well be the same as the 1937, for which you have to remove the seat bottom in order to access the storage and the seat back remains where it is, n need to remove it.

So in conclusion from what I have explained sounds to me like you have seats made up from different trucks.

I hope I am not confusing you as I think I'm starting to confuse myself at the moment, anyway hope this may be of some help to you.
