I was twisting off the DFCM housing when I heard a pop and alot of fuel leaking. It appears I sheared off the 32mm plastic nut. I know for a fact that I was turning it counter clockwise just like the manual stated. Now what do I do? I cant run my SD can I? The simplest solution is to get another housing and install it but im not sure ill be able to get the remnants of the original housing off with out the nut to twist it. How much would a new housing cost? Has anyone else had this happen because I watched Epics video on changing the filter and his came off with little effort. Mine same story just different result. Please help.
I wonder if you can try to get the lower bowl off with a strap wrench and that'll be all that needs replacing?
Sounds like it's on there too tight though for that to work.
I tried to find part numbers but all I can find is for the 6.2L.
I'm not providing much help here but I can recommend NOT starting the engine.
If fuel can get out, air can get in.
You can cause issues by not properly closing the yellow drain valve so I can safely say this will cause issues.
4. Make sure that the drain valve is fully tightened, then remove the
container from under the vehicle.
Note: A loose drain valve can allow air to enter the fuel system and
cause drivetrain issues. The engine will not operate properly. be sure
that the drain valve is fully tightened.
I think kper has the right idea with a strap wrench. Do NOT try to start your truck! If it starts it won't run long and the HPFP doesn't like running dry!
Sorry to hear that. I noticed the bowl was a bit harder to get off the second time I changed/inspected my filters last week. I've heard that some guys are putting a bit of grease on the threads before reinstalling. It would make removal easier. We all need to take your experience to heart.
I wonder if your dealer might warrantee the part. Ford roadside assistance should get your truck there. It's a debateable warranty claim though.
Will the dealership warranty my bloddy knuckles when I smacked it on the frame rail as the nut let go. Im just a little bitter that im not as mechanically inclined as everyone else. I appreciate everyones support in this forum though and am glad its here.
The part number is 9G270 and its only $47.00. I couldnt get it off nor find my strap wrench, it got packed and now lost but im glad its cheap. It looked like you can take the whole DCFM off with the four 1/2" bolts that go thru the rails but i couldnt get the dang hoses to budge after i pulled the clips up. Its just not my day. Ford can deal with it tommorow.
This might be one of those parts that's worthwhile to keep a spare around.
I was thinking about this when I was struggling to get the lower bowl off my DFCM two weekends ago.
I would probably be running to my dealer to get the part quickly, too.
Near the same by the time you add UPS NDA to the online order.
Kind of annoying when a piece of plastic renders the truck useless.
I was getting ready to change my filters for first time. I'm at 11,000 now. I clicked on the Tousley link, but only get the cap for 6.2. Can someone get this info, the part #9G270 didn't work for me either. I'd love to have this on hand before attempting the filter change.
I guess we need to use a strap/filter wrench instead of counting on a regular wrench to get the cap off. I have not even crawled under the truck yet to see the filter housing. I have drained the fuel there a couple times, but never even thought about looking at the housing itself.

I found it on www.fordparts.com by putting in my VIN and selecting "air and fuel delivery" then "filters" but it will not let a canuck order it
So, am I right in assuming what Ford calls a cap is a bowl?
And that all the parts listed that reference a 6.2 are actually a 6.7?
I also tried looking up the F-450, which is only diesel, and the parts list still references a 6.2L.
I found this page, part diagram #23, is this the magic part?
