Need a Motorcraft 2150 carb. expert

Well guys, I'm getting ready to ditch the Dreaded Feedback Carb. and go to the DS2/Standard carb. set-up on my '84 F150 4X4 351W. I believe I have all the necessary parts (thanks,Gary Lewis), but I have a question about the carb. As I understand, this carb. came from a 351M, which, from what I have read, were rather severely de-tuned for emissions reasons. The carb. currently has #53 main jets and the standard power valve. For a stock 351W, would this size jets and this power valve be OK or is there something to be gained by going to larger jets and a different power valve.I'm looking for the best balance of power and mileage; emissions are not an issue here. I don't expect miracles but if some changes would help the engine reach it's full potential, rather than being choked off, I am open to suggestions. Any suggestions as to specific jet size and power valve specs/number would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the long post.

Sounds like almost exactly what I did. I am running a Mallory Unilite distributor and the 2150 as it came off the M motor and the only trouble I have had with it is getting the choke adjusted. Bogs a bit when cold but otherwise runs great. I have not tried other jets yet, but am considering slightly bigger mains.

Considering the cubic inches are the same, it should run fairly well as is.

On edit: You said "full potential". Why not just go to a 4bbl? I am saving up for it.

Bogging when cold can be helped by changing the accelerator pump stroke and possibly reducing the choke pull-off amount. The further out on the throttle lever you put the pump rod, the greater the amount of fuel it delivers. On the choke pull-off, if you have the external diaphram, there should be a screw in the back, turn it in with the engine cold start until it just seems to want to load up from being rich, than back it off about 1/2 turn. This should help.

Yeah, I thought about going with a 4 barrel, but I'm retired and not exactly rolling in money. I got the 2 barrel for a good price so I thought I would see what I could get out of it performance wise. They are supposed to be good off-road carbs. and this is a hunting/wood hauling truck which, in KY means up and down hills. Anybody have suggestions on the jets and power valve issue?

I'm up next to the Ohio river near Newport, about as far north as you can get and still be in KY. Lived here most of my life except for a couple years in Ashland KY, a couple years in Lexington KY and a couple years in Winfield KS. Seems like I always end up back here.
