I posted this in the 7.3 forum but havent had any luck yet.
I have some questions about this wheel bearing conversion. I must be missing someting here. I have an Early 99 f250 superdudy 4x4 7.3 made in 98 according to my door tag. I researched the conversion here on the site and was under the impression all I had to do was get the Late 99 hub assembly and rotors to match. So here is what I bought...
Hub assembly for late 99f250 with rear wheel abs part number 515021 and rotors part number 666924rgs which are 14 inch rotors.
Upon dissasembly I found I have 13 inch rotors not 14 so I exchanged them for part number 66746rgs thinking I was good to go.
Upon assembly I found out that the caliper mount bracket rubs on the outside of the rotor.
I called the parts store about a different caliper mount bracket but they tell me there is no difference from E99-L99/ 2000 brackets in f250 or 350.
Does anyone ave any insight on this one? Is the parts store wrong and there is a different bracket?
Do I have the wrong rotors to make up for the updated hub that is 3mill thicker at the flange?
Do I have the wrong wheel hub assembly?
I am lost on this one. Thought it was gonna go smooth and found not so much.
I plan on starting my own thread, but while doing my ball joint replacement I found out one of my hubs was damaged by water getting pass the seal. It hasn't failed yet, but I can tell it's close by the way it feels and sounds. I've decided that it may be beneficial to convert over to the late '99 style to make it cheaper to buy the hub bearing assembly and the chance to upgrade to the 14" rotors. I'll be curious to know what the verdict is on this.
the conversion DOES work. I finished mine over the weekend. The parts store gave me the early 99 rotors which where the same ones I already had. I didnt go with 14 inch rotors as I figured they too would rub on the caliper mount. All I needed was the corect rotors and BOOM she fit right back together!!
Thanks for the update. After some more research last night I found out that use of the 14" rotors was very rare in the first few years of the SD. I plan on ordering the late '99 hub bearings and rotors (13" of course) today. Looks like I'll have to order the replacement hub bearings studs at my local dealer or from Parts Guy Ed since no one else seems to list them.
