I am going to do ball joints on my 2003 F-250 4WD soon. I have ordered the front axle needle bearings just to be on the safe side (just in case---cheap). What holds the needle bearing in the front wheel bearing ??? Is there a snap ring or a "C" clip or what ???
Also, what have you guys used as a fork for the lower ball joint ??? I have the ball joints already, and I measured the lower ball stud--it's huge at over 1.5 inches. The largest fork I can find is 15/16". The upper is no problem, as it's only about 3/4".
Once you get it all apart, and remove the bearing assy, the needle bearing can be tapped out from the opposite side. I put some pics of the process here:
As for the lower ball joint, I too didn't have a fork big enough, so I used a small 3-jaw puller. I couldn't line it up perfectly, but it worked pretty good.
