I have a 2009 ranger sport 4.0 . It has started to die. Going down the highway,in town, or at idle.It refires everytime no problem. The computer put up no code but inertia switch, jumped it ,still dies. The local dealer tech has tried all sensors around air intake, no effect. If you unplug transmission it stays running but you cannot drive it. Last week I had to drive through 12" deep water going home the last day it ran correctly my question is what can this possibly get wet to cause this problem? And how can I check this?
Well if it runs with the TRS disconnected, maybe suspect it!!!! It's down low on the side of the tranny, where it can get wet.
If you suspect it, maybe remove it & put it in an oven at say 120 deg F for a couple of hours to dry it out & see how it goes.
Edit:
Whatever it is, the computer isn't monitoring it, as you don't have any trouble codes.
When it dies, are all of the dash warning lights lit???? If not, maybe Murphys Law is messing with you, so perhaps suspect something like the under hood power distribution box located computer power relay, so try swaping it out with a like relay not needed to run the engine, like the A/C power relay & see how it goes.

you also can try the putting it in a bag of rice trick........how many miles on the truck? isn't it still under warranty?
It still dies with the trs disconnected. After it dies all the normal prestart dash warning lights come on. If you disconnect the top plug on top of the trans the engine will keep running ,or the inside large electrical connector on the firewall witch I am told by a ford tech is for the tranny. Tomorrow I am going to try disconnecting these wires 1 at a time to see if I can narrow it down,by the way the truck has 104,000kms.and is off warranty.
The truck still dies with the trs disconnected. We have pulled the inside block of wires on the firewall and the engine does not die, a ford tech tells me that this is for the tranny. And if you unplug the electrical connection on the trans it keeps running. So this weekend I am going to 1 at a time pull wires out of the firewall block hoping to find ! that causes the problem, before I take it in to the shop on tuesday. The truck is used for carpentry work and has 104,000 kms. on it so warranty is done, thanks for the ideas keep them coming.I need all the help I can find.
WOOPS, I just re-read your first post & noticed you said you had a trouble code for the in cabin inertia switch, but jumpered it with no joy. SO, post the trouble code Number you had that you said was for the inertia switch!!!!
