Auto to Manual transmission

I am getting tired of not having full control of my truck. I drive big rigs and like the control you have with a manual transmission. I was thinking of putting a 6 speed transmission in my 99 ford F250 super-duty that is now an automatic. I was wondering what was involved and if you had any opinions on this idea. I have a basic idea of the task I am wanting to do but was hoping for some opinions and maybe some things I have missed that might be a snag once I start to do it. I also use it as a work truck, pull trailers, and heavy loads in the bed, just some added info for you opinions.

I am afraid there more involved on those trucks than just swapping the gear box. The clutch release is hydraulically controlled.
Than there is clutch switch that affects cruise control and probably brakes. Meaning you'd have to dig into computers. Not something I am familiar with.

I've seen a conversion for your year of truck...
Search around it'll turn up.

I think it's more easily done on a 99 than say a 2005.

Hey thanks for the link. I wasn't sure I could do it at first but now I have more confidence. I just need the money for the transmission and parts then I'm going to do the swap.

swap

I have a 6 speed and like it . But my gut feeling says that it will be a lot more trouble then its worth. Just a thought but are you better off selling your truck and buying one with a 6 speed?
