Hi I have a 1996 F150 with the 4.9 and the M5ODR2 (the 5 speed). The truck has about 150'000 miles on it and has recently started making somewhat of the same noise as it would if I were lugging the engine. From what I can tell it is coming from the transmission. It has always made this noise when I was going too slow for the gear but now has started to make this noise at higher rpms that are more normal for daily driving. Yesterday I was on the highway at around 2'000rpms and it kept making this noise. However it seems that the slower (engine speed) I go the more prominent the noise gets.
Anyway, I was just wondering if this could erupt into a serious problem or just a sign of normal wear an tear. Thanks.
Oh, one more thing. While stopped in neurtal with the clutch engaged you can faintly hear the transmission spinning with the engine. Probably normal though I guess.
