I am new to these partys, so be gentle. I have a 1979 gas l700 ford truck (dump). To get back legal i have to rewire it, get the hydulic system working, among other things. Good i am retired so i have time to work on it! I am trying to find manuals or articles or electrical articles covering these areas, and parts for this unit. I think all 1979 l700 cabs will have similar wiring. I am not sure this truck is 2 ton or 1.5 ton or even how to tell. As you can see i need help and even sympathy for my situation would be appreciated. Is this too wordy for this weird thing called a "forum"? thanks for any help i can get. curt
I have found many factory service manuals and/or electrical diaighrams on Fleaby for chep money
There is whole section under manuals & lit... over there.
I do not think that you will have problems as far as wiring, a little time
test lights etc. Most problems are the results of prev. owners hacking
things up mainly arrow lights stop lights. These trucks are kind of basic
like from 1973 to 79 cabs are about the same as a pickup except a
different dash. I put a F8 cab on a pickup and was a plug & play, this
was on a 79 F150, got strange looks on it due to its dash and outside
door handles. As far as brakes, well brakes are brakes , just a pain
Napas got that stuff. F700s can do 7-8 yards sand & gravel ok.
Do a search for shop manuals on line, there are many people like
"auto lit " - Walter Miller and many more that deal in these books.
Those "Hains" ( I think ) from auto zone which are available have the
diagrams. Likely you probably have a 330HD in there ?
If you post your VIN here, one of the regulars can decipher it for you.
As for your engine, not sure the FT (which would be the 330, 361, 391 in your size truck) was still offered, as the stuff I find says those ended in '78.
A simple search for "1979 L series shop manual" produces this source on the first page of many hits--mostly Subaru lol:
i have been out of action since mermorial day. sorry about that, you gave a very quick response. i have been told the engine is a 460, but i am not sure. i cannot find the VIN # but there is a warranty # F706YFC7479. the Y may be a V. F7034A8 is the body type. i will get back to you when i have info.

460's were not installed in F500 or larger trucks.
F706VFC7479 is the VIN
F70 = F700 (gas).
6 = In-correct engine code, look again...it's prolly a G = 370 2V.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
FC7479 = 1979.
Where did you find that so-called body code, it's not correct?
the engine must have been changed out. it is definity a 460, says so on the motor, i will vefiy the body code this weekend. can i send a message to all the responders to my orginal question and how. thanks, curt
THE 460 ENGINE NUMBER WAS ON A STICKER ON THE LEFT VALVE COVER, THIS STICKER REFERENCED "EMISSION " SO IT MAY BE THE ENGINE SIZE ALLOWED. I HAVE FOUND A WIRING DIAGRAM THAT FITS THE CAB (WITH HELP FROM THE FORUM). STILL LOOKING FOR A WIRING SCHMATIC BUT CAN LIVE WITHOUT IT.
Hey Curtis, when you get a chance, check out the MS chapter forum. Lots of good folks. Depending on where you are someone might be able to give you a hand with your big Ford.

A 460 valve cover is the same as a 429 or 370 valve cover, so all that proves is the valve cover itself is from a 460.
There is no specific 460 engine number on a valve cover decal, simply because there is no specific 460 engine number. Since 1948, Ford trucks have been registered by their specific VIN.
The number printed on the label is the IDengineeringnumber for the label itself, it has nothing to do with any engine size.
Also on this label is the calibration code, specific to the emissions of whatever vehicle the valve cove came from.
