Tie rods bent. bad night.

Hey im new on here. i was at yankee lake trucknight last night, if you are from eastern ohio or western pa you have probably heard of it. anyway i was pulling a jeep out and broke my drivers side axle shaft and when that happened i couldnt make a left turn whatsoever, but it turned to the right as it normally did. i was able to get back to the pits and took the axle shaft out and it still wouldnt turn to the left. not sure why.

ended up getting a car dolly and was going to tow it home with my friends truck but the straps were too small so we used the safety chains and a few tow straps. i didnt know it but one guy that was helping us decided to hook a strap from the neck of the car dolly to my tranny mount, and when we turned around in the parking lot it pulled the front of my truck off of the car dolly. so he tried to pull my tires back onto it to unhook everything (while still attached to the other truck) and he ended up bending the **** out of all of my steering linkage.

so i have two questions. one, why wasnt i able to turn left? maybe a gear in the steering box, or what?

two, it looks the same to me and i would imagine it would be, but im just double checking. my friend is parting out his 82 f150 and the tie rods and everything looks the same. would his steering box and everything work on my truck? mine is a 96.

thanks

1987-1996 truck are identical, albeit for a couple little changes....

Not sure on the pre-1987's...I don't think it'll swap over...

Sounds like a tow truck would have been much cheaper.

yea it wasnt a good night at all haha.. and ok, im gonna call a few junkyards today and see how much it will be. i might try to find someone parting out a truck if they want alot.

i have another question. my inner seal on the front pumpkin on the drivers side is leaking now. if there is no axle shaft on that side and the passenger side hub is unlocked, and the t-case is in 2wd, will i hurt anything at all if it runs out of fluid? im gonna be running the truck for a little while with just 2wd til i can afford to fix it

Nothing will be turning so it wont hurt anything.
