73 heater questionssss

Hey. What's up guys? I have acouple questions about my heater in my 73. First off, what is a heater valve and could that leak if i was haveing problems before? I bought the truck like it is. The guy bypassed it for me. He said that the guy before him said the heater core was leaking and he took it out and never replaced it. ( smart guy, ya right) Any ways, i want to put a core in but when i looked in the *** catalog, they had a heater valve and i just wanted to get some info before i ripped everything down. Than my other concern was how i was going to take the core out. Is there any special way to remove the heater core? i was just going to go under neath the dash and find a way to remove it. Than my last question is the hoses comeing out of the firewall. Now i know theres two and one goes to the water pump and one to the intake, but which line? The left one goes to the water pump or the intake? If you all would just tell me what the heater valve is, if its important, how to remove the heater core, and which hose goes where, i would appreciate it. thanks

73 heater questionssss

First off I do not know why *** has that valve as I have never seen these trucks with this valve unless they have A/C . Replacement of the heater core is easy , also you MAY want to replace the blower moter while the heater "box" is out as they are cheep . To remove the heater box remove the 2 nuts that are visable from the engine compartment . They are around the blower moter . There is also 1 nut behind the engine remove that also ! then you get to gently pull the box out from inside the cab . Allow the box to hang down alittle . Now that the box is hanging remove the cables from the box that control the heat and on off funtion's, taking note of were and how the cables attacked and were the leavers are in the dash. Now that the "fun" part is over you will see an access panel on the box this will allow you to remove the heater core ,also at this time you can clean out the junk that has fallen in or placed in by modents . Puttting it back in the the exact opposite but make sure that the drefrost nossel is placed on correctly . When you put the new heater hoses on it really do not matter which one goes where ! I hope this helps again it is easy but it can be a pain due to how close the box is to the dash , just be patient and gental and it will come out . One other thing now that I think of it if you opt to replace the blower moter (you really should) the new motor may have long treaded rods sticking out on the side that the wires are on . Cut those "rods" off as they will get hung up on the fire wall when you put the blower motor back through the firewall
Thats about it

Hey, thanks for the help. The info. you gave me really helped me take the heater assembley off. I'll also might go ahead and get a new motor just to be on the safe side. I got it out ok but the back plate for the core was pretty stressful.. The plate was all rusted and the core looked like it has never came out before. But thanks for the info. I appreciate the help.
