120vac question

Did not know where to put this and need a little input.

I am wanting to run a car radio/stereo in my shop/garage along with possibly my car's portable sirius radio.

What I need is a 120VAC to 12VDC converter. My question is this.
Get a cheap $2.00 wall plug or a $20+ sit on bench converter?

I have had the cheap $2 ones in the past to use phone chargers on 120vac and other little things like that but the wall plug type (2 ac prongs basically sticking out of a cig lighter socket) have always stopped working after a bit. I guess I blow them up some how.

Would I be fine with the $2? I do intend to keep the radio plugged in but a second one will be use to plug and unplug the sirius.

If your wondering "why?" a car radio. Dosen't everyone have a few JY radio's kicking around

Thanks
