What top speed you able go and what I should check
I hate give up my 95 F250 with 3.55 since it able cruise 80-90 mph get 15 mpg. Not joke.
I been look at rangers 2wd but concerned about how 2.3L performance at high speed like 70-85 mph or it struggle? Out winded? Is 3.0L better for that?
Year I would say 1993-1999 ext cab with short bed 2wd with manual. Never like auto with 2.3L or 3.0L it too sluggish. 4.0L but it hog on gas. My 94 Explorer I able get 23 mpg at 60 mph but 3.73 so it never saw 70 mph.
What gear they come in rear axle? What rpm when you go at 70-80 mph?
How heavy they can hold in bed. My friend have 99 ranger sport 4wd he say it OVERLOAD when he put 500 lb in bed it like it couldn't go. 3.0L with automatic run on 5 cylinders.
i have a 2000 2wd manual 2.5 with 4:10 rearend and 31x12.5 tires. It cruises at 80-90 mph. At those speeds I get around 20ish mpg. Hills can be an issue with this truck. at those speeds it can be a bitch going up a hill on the interstate.
I have a 4.0L and my governor is set at 94 mph. Cruising at 75 I'm usually in the 2500 RPM range. I also have 4.10 gears.
I don't know about weight in the bed but I've pulled about 2200 lbs with no problems. The most weight I've had in the bed was about a couple hundred pounds of wood, no problems
I have a ranger with a 4.0l and run right at 3000 rpm at 83 mph. I can set my cruise at that speed and pull 17-20mpg. Not to sure on the weights either, but i haul my 1999 polaris rmk 700(bout 500 lbs) and i seem to have no problems with it. I would go with a 4.0l instead of the others, more power = better mpg. Otherwise they have to work to hard to keep speed, just my opinion though.
Ok would it help if you put 4.0L OHV or 4.0L SOHC ?
I have struggle find perfect mpg/speed on my 94 explorer. It get worst mpg at high than 65.
3.73 with 235/75/15 highway tires. I could pull 23 mpg by stay 60-65 mph it was around 2,800 if I can remember. I haven't drive explorer for 2 months. It in storage until spring due DEVIL SALT.
I discussed with my Dad. He say ranger not worth it for me since I would overload easily. He say keep explorer since it get 20 mpg in city and he like my explorer.
