Never really chased this problem down last year and its that time again(ok ok its past that time we just had a cold snap of a few weeks of minus 20+ lol)
Anyway my 2000 V10 Ex has never really blown good heat from the dash. The rear seems hotter than the front and always has. There are no issues with AC or the delivery/location of air or strength of the blower. If I put my hand behind the heaterbox behind the dash I have to be very careful what I touch as the core seems to get good and toasty. How does one remove this white electrical module without disassembling the entire truck?
I assume this is what directs air thru the core vs the ac?
What confuses me is i CAN notice a "change" from full cold to full hot when I rotate the dial but it just doesnt seem like enough of a change to be normal. Dash heat is at best luke warm.
Truck runs normal, gage heats up normal and I have already changed the thermostat, altho as I said I do not think that has anything to do with my issue.
My Ranger had a heater control valve that would turn off the hot water to the heater core when you put the controls to max AC. If that is not working it may cause your problem. The core won't get hot if this is the problem. The solution would be to remove the valve and put a hose barb in its place. The valve is vacuum controled. I remove the valve on my Range because it was a constant source of leaks. Also your blend door may be stuck. This is also vacuum controlled I believe. You may just have a vacuum leak.
Ok I just got back from a wreckers where I bought the white module. When plugged into my harness and when moving the dial from hot to cold the white actuater slowely rotates about 90 degree's
I popped mine off and plugged it back in and performed the same test and it does exactly the same thing as the "new" one so I assume this module is/was working nrormally.
As for the core it is definitely getting quite hot, there are areas behind the heater box I could not stick my hand as they are very warm indeed. Also the temp of the air coming out of the vents DOES change from hot to cold but it just never really feels that warm out of the vents. The air out of the overhead vents from the rear system feels noticably warmer.
Could this be a blend door issue? When they fail do they completely stop working in either warm or cold or do you still get a partial functioning like I describe? How does one get at the blend door?
