Any thoughts on valvoline tranmission fluid change through dipstick
I have 2000 Lincoln Navigator with 145000 miles. I droped the pain, changed filter and add about 10 Q of new ATF . I called Valvoline today to check the price on Transmission flush. They told that they will do it through dipstick so its like flued exchange while engine is running but not power flush where they hook up to trany line and push stuff out. I wants to know what you guys think? Any advice? will that be ok?
I bought the truck with 109000 Miles on it without any service record and i have kept debating to change fluid or not since i didn't receive any maintenance record with it. Fluid was turning brownish so i decided to do something with it.
Finally, at 132000 miles, i dropped the pan, drain about 10 qrts, put in new filter and refilled with Mercon V.
I have 146000 miles, runs fine and now wants to do fluid exchange again. I was told i am ok on the filter and valvoline said they will exchange the fluid through dipstick. Machine sucks out the pan fluid first, then it refill the pain with fresh fluid and then they will start the engine. They inject 16 qrts of fresh fluid and take out 16 while engine running . Also, they told me the machine pressure the fluid, trany does itself like it does in normal operation.
It was the first time i knew about tranny fluid exchange through dipstick. I thought it's only done through cooler line with pressure.
Like I mentioned before, change the fluid, change the filter. I wouldn't do it any other way myself. In my opinion that would be like changing the motor oil without changing the oil filter, you wouldn't do that would you ?
