89 ranger w/2.9L Help
My brother got this 89 Ranger 4x4 wit the 2.9L in it. It had a rebuilt engine with hardly any miles and it runs like crap. When it starts after it has sit a while it will start right up, but after about 2 minutes it will idle up for abouot 30 secs then it will die. Then you have to crank it with the gas pedal to the floor to get it to start back up. But it doesn't stay running after it starts. It will run as long as you give it gas, but as soon as you let off the pedal it fall on its face. It smells like it is getting way too much gas. We replaced the fuel regulator and put new plugs on it. It does sound like the timing may be a little off but I'm not sure if that would cause these problems. If anyone has any ideas what it could be please let me know. I need to get it running cause it's sitting in my yard.
