Any one considering a oil pump replacement.

First off, let me say that it is a total pain. I have the 300 I6 in a 87 F250. Needed to replace the pick up/pump/gasket. Basically, you have to unbolt the motor mounts, jack the engine up, (do not forget to unhook your trans cooling lines like I did) and after unbolting the pan, reaching into it to unbolt the pickup and pump. Flip the pan and pick up to get them out, then repeat in reverse order.

I could not get the pan out to save my life.

I would also recommend getting the pan gasket for a 92 F150. It is a rubber 1 piece that is awesome. It comes with 4 plastic studs that hold the gasket to the block while you get the pan in place, then hold the pan till you get it bolted. Makes life soooo much easier.

I was quoted $550+ just for the pan gasket installed.

It took me about 4 hours for everything.

Good luck, it can be frustrating!

Try rolling in new bearings from underneath with oil dripping in your face. Life is a bowl of cherries!
