transmission code?

Got a "P" for transmission code on the door pillar. Anybody know what tranny this is. It's in an 87 F350 4x4 with 6.9 diesel.

According to the sources I've found "P" is either the BW T-19 4 speed or a C-6 automatic depending on model and year. I'm guessing you'll know which

Thanks StrangeRanger. Yep, that'd be a BW T-19 4 speed.

Have you gotten under it to confirm that it's marked "BW" somewhere on the casting? I've read that it wasn't used in '87. Check this site.

Steve83, No I haven't gotten under it to check for that. It's on my uncle's truck and he was wanting to know what he had. He just bought the truck a couple weeks ago. I'll look at it sometime to see. The link you put up shows the TOD was used in 84-85, but my 87 has it. The T19 used in 74-85, but this truck likely has it. The T18 used in 56-73, but I know an 86 model that has it. Any idea why the years don't match?

Probably because the researcher who wrote that wasn't very thorough, or because Ford wasn't consistent and used them when they said they didn't. I linked it mainly so you could see what they look like - I haven't found any transmission data that's complete and reliable.

Another reason might be that the transmissions in the trucks have been changed. Can you imagine what someone might think if they got under MY truck and looked around?

Yeah, from your pics I can imagine. That's a good link you put up, I bookmarked it for future reference. Thanks!
